💪 The context / The current form
Pushed to the brink, that’s when champions prove their metal. That’s what happened on Thursday night as world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka overhauled stars and stripes hope Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In doing so, Sabalenka is the first player to reach three consecutive finals at Flushing Meadows since a certain Serena Williams made four in a row in 2011-2014.
Remember, the top seed suffered devastating Grand Slam final defeats at the Australian Open and Roland-Garros. Saturday’s silverware showdown will have extra meaning for the reigning champion.
As for Amanda Anisimova, she’s rebounded from a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash loss in the Wimbledon final two months ago, to storm into a second Grand Slam final.
A three-set triumph over the resurgent Naomi Osaka proved Anisimova is primed and poised for a maiden major title.
🏆 Their 2025 tournament
It's been a world No.1 kind of showing in NYC. Taking the tie-breaks, not dropping too many sets at all, it's been ferocious from the tiger.
The three-time Grand Slam champion was left delighted by her turnaround in the semi-finals.
"I think I really played great tennis. I think I handled that pressure really well," stated the top seed. I'm super proud of this win."
The past two matches are the proof if you ever needed it, that Anisimova can be a Grand Slam champion.
Gaining Wimbledon final revenge over Iga Swiatek was one step, then the gruelling three-hour blockbuster with Naomi Osaka indicates Anisimova senses this is her chance on home soil.
🆚 Face-to-face
The ardent home fans will be pleased to know that Anisimova owns a 6-3 head-to-head over the net from Sabalenka.
Rewind to July and the American blazed to a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 scoreboard in the Wimbledon semi-finals. However at Roland-Garros earlier this summer, the world No.1 was the victor 7-5, 6-3.
They’ve crossed paths at the other three Grand Slams in the past two years, this is a final which will be dripping in quality and major knowhow.

Amanda Anisimova : "I'm super excited to be in the US Open final. It is really special. I'm just going to try and do all the right things, really prepare to be in the best possible mindset and physically. I'm really looking forward to it, and I think it's a great opportunity.
"It's the No.1 player in the world, and she's playing amazing tennis. It's going to be a really tough match and a battle. Yeah, I'm excited. Every single time we have played, it's been great."
